Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father was a carnival barker, passed away at the age of a tiny little girl. This forced her mother to provide for the family by working as an attendant and a cleaner. Ruth attended the school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. In the midst of only two years in school the young woman left to pursue the acting career. The path she chose was filled with problems. When she was offered a job at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to get opportunities for stage. Then, after a time as a club hat girl after which she decided to come back to her home in Massachusetts and leave her job. In Boston, she earned a living as an usherette by day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first job as an actor. She also studied drama and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
